I did the sfc /scannow but nothing happened. I didn't see a screen that told me anything. I did restart and checked around and there is only 3 things listed under Start/Accessories/System Tools:
BackUp
Files & transfer wizard
Security Center

However.........when I started the sfc /scannow and put in the Windows XP/SP2 this is what showed up:
WXPCCP-EN (D:)

Folder: CMPNENTS
Folder: I386
Folder : Valueadd
Folder: DOS
Folder: Support

Then there was that paper looking thing with dots on (see below) with these next to each one:

BootCat
Readme
Setup XP
Win51IP
Win51
Win51IP.SP2

Then there was a paper looking thing that has a gear on it (see below) with each of these:
Autorun
Booting

Last was a box with a CD on it (see below) that had this:
Setup

********************************************************************
Did the control panel/add/remove/remove windows component. Did a restart and the only thing I see is the game Pinball which does work. No other games listed.

That list is the contents of the CD, not the hard drive. You want to type C: and press Enter to change into the hard drive before running the command sfc /scannow.

I used Start/Run and typed in sfc /scannow. Then when that little window popped up and said to insert disk, I did. Then the D: opened up and that list is just what showed up. I didn't know if I could X out of it while sfc /scannow was running, so I just didn't touch anything.

Was sfc /scannow oppose to show me a window with info in it?

I take it that the files for putting system restore in system tools is just lost. Hopefully I won't ever need it. If so, then I guess I'll just do another install.......since I'm a pro at it now...don't even have to look at the printed pages..... http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/bravo!.gif

Peggy, put the disk in. When the install window opens up, just X it out or click cancel -> then click start -> run -> then type in sfc /scannow -> then click ok. A graph will appear and you will see it's progress.

it never scanned when you tried it last time. I was hoping this scan would repair and files that were not loaded durning the install.

Okay, will work on that in the morning. It's been full day working with that sfc /scannow. It took almost an hour each time I did it.

It will take quite awhile, it reads all the installed files and compares to what they should be, checking for corrupted or missing files.

Maybe it did scan but I've never have seen the CD drive window open up while scanning. I'm sure there is a hint there into what is happening but it's not enough to help us figure it out. :bald_head: This whole XP installation is weird!

Before I begin I did some searching.........I navigated to system restore and the folder is empty. If you click on Start/Accessories/system tools......there are 5 things missing: Disk cleanup, disk defrag, scheduled tasks, system info & system restore.

I think that there are just alot of files that weren't installed. I surely don't know how to get them off of the Windows XP/SP2 disk.
Is there a way to download them on my computer and put necessary ones on a CD and then install them on Cheryl's PC?

While looking on the net for more info about this weird problem I came across this:
http://www.kellys-ko...m/xp_tweaks.htm
**********************************************************************
Now after doing what I was suppose to do this AM this is what came up...........

Window #1.......Sub-component distributed transaction coordinator raised an exception while processing the OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message.
d:/nt/com/com1x/dtc/ntdtcsetup/src/csetuputil.cpp (line 2748) error code=0x80004005

unspecified error: Failed to execute function 'DLL Registerserver0' in C:/WINDOWS/system 32/mtxoci.dll
**********************************************************************

Window #2....d:/nt/com/com1x/src/complussetup/comsetup/ccompluscore.cpp (line 565).
error code: 0x80040206

Peggy, this is just a bad install. When ever that happens to me, I just keep reinstalling till I get a good one but, I have extra drives and install disks to try. It's not worth all your attempts to repair things..... even if you did repair all these things.... it still wouldn't be a stable install. I'm going to send you some disks.

While you are waiting for the disks that I'm sending..... don't you have an XP/SP1 disk.... if so, you can try to reinstall with that disk.

Ya know I been thinking about this all afternoon. I know that SP2 requires 64 MB, but reading about the requirements for installing it, it says this:
233 MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM and 900 MB available on hard-disk space.

I wonder if that old machine has that? Where do I look to see if I have those amounts using Everest or just somewhere on the PC?

Your system specs are ok Peggy. I still suspect the CD drive. We will know tomorrow when you reinstall Windows 2000. :fat_face_smiling:
