:fat_face_surprised: Somehow Irfanview has become my default imager! I preferred the one that was a default (I think it was 'Imaging').

Incidentally, I particularly don't like the Irfanview icon - I tried to alter the icon, but nothing happened. I thought it would be easier to do that instead of reverting to the Windows default.

I have looked everywhere (that I can think of) to answer this question!

Thanks for help!

Don't like the icon, huh???? RIght-click the shortcut, Properties and click the Change Icon button, there's 13 choices on version 3.92.

But to change the file association to Kodak Imaging [included with Win98/98SE/2000] you could click an image such as a .jpg, hold down the Shift key while right-clicking then choose Open With... from the menu. Navigate the list of installed programs and click your choice. Be sure to put a checkmark in the box at bottom left.

For others intending to install IrfanView there was a choice of formats to associate it with or disassociate with during the installation. Could be easily overlooked.

:fat_face_sad: Thanks for your reply, Berton. I tried what you said to change file association to Kodak Imaging - it only changed some of them and made them larger than originally saved.

I tried changing the icon and it only changed on the shortcut but didn't change in my documents.

I didn't make myself clear - I wnat to change to the default on my documents (as originally saved) or otherwise change the icons in my documents. I can't stand the sea of red - but I don't mind it on the shortcut (which is only one).

Any other ideas? Thanks!

Hi, fairlopgirl. Berton is probably elk hunting, or shoveling snow tonight and can't get back. While waiting, try this.
Open the program, go to options, properties. Click on the extension tab. This will show what programs you can open with Irfanview. When you choose an extension, then look over to the right and click on the misc button. This will let you choose an icon then for each extension you open with Irfanview.
You will see you can use those icons or get more through plug ins.
Try the help section for more info. Maybe when Berton gets back he can guide you through this easier than I can.

By changing the extension association to a happy face, it even changed the icon on my desktop to a happy fact.

Actually, I got home from bowling about an hour ago.

The icons for images will take on the icon of the program they are associated with. That's a real advantage for those with a number of programs installed in being able to recognize what program they should open with.

Attached Image: thank_you_smiley.gif Berton and WW - between the two of you I have it figured out! If I checked the 'always open this kind of file' it changed all the same kinds of files.

In my frustration I went to options, extensions and 'clear all' - lo and behold it is back to the default!!!

I think I have to find out what the various extensions are!! I have to find out more about Irfanview - I only use it for a couple of things...Attached Image: clicker125.gif

Look at http://filext.com anytime you want to check what extension is used by what program.

Just a note, the CPU fan on my WinXP machine spun 3 blades off itself so I'm using Win2000 Pro on a Pentium 4 2.0GHz untill I get a new fan. I guess 2 years was long enough for that fan. Naturally, I don't have one of that particular size [70mm] on hand.

Berton - thanks for the link - have put it on my links and will check all extensions.

Attached Image: duh.gif I'm sorry to say that I haven't got to replacing things (and probably never will) - I have to call someone in when things go radically wrong! Attached Image: computer_puzzled.gif
