I recently installed a Webshots program to enable me to upload pictures onto the webshots website. The program automatically installed a screensaver onto my computer which displays nice scenery pictures which changes periodically when it is in screensaver mode. Everything seemed fine for a couple of days until my screen turned blue and had some type of disk error reading and I heard some clicking sound coming from my computer tower. I tried to reboot the system and then I got a reading that says " No boot devices were found-System halted" . I downloaded a Win98 SE boot disk from my other computer and placed into my win98 computer to boot from the disk and the computer did boot from the disk and went into A: drive, but when I typed in C: it gave a message of Non system disk or disk error. I would appreciate any help on this matter. I'm not sure if it was the screensaver that caused the problem or did my hard drive just crash.

Hello Ron, Welcome to the forum. This doesn't have anything to do with webshots. It sounds like you already know that it's likely hard drive failure. It could be a loose wire but if you haven't moved your computer lately, that's not likely.

If you know what make your hard drive is you can go to the manufacturers site, download and install their diagnostic program to a diskette to check the drive in question. If you don't know the brand of the drive you can download and install
Drive Fitness to a diskette on your other computer.
After drive fitness is installed on the diskette it will want to test the computer that you install it with, just say "no" to the restart and remove the diskette from the floppy drive. Then insert the diskette in the computer in question and boot it. Just follow the directions and choose the advanced test.

Good luck!

An update about my friend, Ron's computer.
He opened a side panel, and that clicking sound was definitely coming from a hard drive.
He called computer repair shop, and a technician there told him, that playing with that HD may cause some more damage, and any data may be not possible to recover.
He decided to bring his computer in, and today, they called him to confirm, that his HD was dead.
They've been in a process of recovering some data.
At this moment, it's not clear, yet, if they will be succesful.
