Well pointed Harry. But not being an Apple user not meaningful to me. like my ideas and opinions your friend has another source and goes from their point of view. maybe because he is an Apple user/owner. I state the facts as I collect them and opinions along side the facts. One is Apple charges more, period #2 is fewer hardware and software work on the Apple. Although that might change as time wears on!
# 3 Job or whom ever the CEO is is out for big bucks and a share of the market. PERIOD.
This started out teasing JR., but has (like many at this site) turned into an information war on 2 OS and their up & downs. COOL guys keep it coming!

Harry's Friend said:
Are Apples more expensive? Nope. Check out <http://www.systemshootouts.net> and you will see that about the same quality systems cost the same. Individual cases can be made for one or another system but sometimes for the same price you get less than Dell.
I checked it out Harry just like your friend said to do. It's very obvious to me that it was a Apple fan that did this shootout comparison and here is the proof. I navigated to the most expensive Dell and Mac comparison they had listed. I can only post a partial screenshot because there was no link that pointed directly this the comparison.

Now here is what that Dell really costs: $3731.00

When they put their results together for their comparison it was meant to make the Apple look good. They added things trying to pad the price like the (more expensive) Xeon processor. For about the same $3400.00 they could of put together this SLI Dell Computer with 2 7800GTX GeForce video cards, dual Sata hard drives, 2 gigs of ram,a 3.4 GHz CPU not a 2.5GHz and so on. This SLI computer would blow their Mac away and the SLI Dell is $1900.00 less than the Mac.
If Harry's friend was right about Mac's being about the same price as a PC and I'm sure he believes that the Mac is far and away the superior computer, I wonder how he can explain that Apple only has 3 or 4% of the market? After reading his responces to Fred Langa's opinions, I'm sure he would come up with a creative answer.
These wars have been going on for a long time. I think The Mac Computer is a great computer especially their laptops. I just don't care for their company practices and PC based software is more reasonably priced. That's just my opinion and since we are free to buy or build which ever computer we want, I choose a PC over a Mac.

Just as I thought. When you turn loose the BRAINS on this board, your bound to come up with some VERY GOOD ANSWERS.
My friend is a physicist (nuclear and atomic electromagnetism) and, as you can tell, very pro-Mac. However, it should be noted in his defense, I have found ACADEMIA in general, pro-Mac. I haven't determined if this is an elitist/very educated phenomenon or because the Mac is just less suseptible to problems
(which these folks just don't have the time to cope with) than the PC.
As was just said above, this debate is far from over.

You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape.
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.
If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

I thought your friend sounded very intelligent. My oldest son is a clinical physiologist who spent the last 14 years in collage. He is also an assistant professor working on his full professorship at Virginia Tech. He is also set in his ways like your friend but he still builds his own PC’s. He hates Mac’s. Go figure? Maybe we should hook up the two of them and let them go at it.
