Cleaning up another old pentium 2 and decided to just format and reinstall 98. Went to do it and didn't recognize the cd drive. Not good for reinstallation. Finally got it to see the drive then wouldn't start except in safe mode...command sys error on line 23. Oh well, decided to just format the thing and start from scratch...but when type in FORMAT C, it says not enough memory to format!!!Has 600mgs out of 6 gigs left...but what memory do you need to format???I'm taking everything off...don't get it but I have made quite a mess of this old thing....

Ken, Are you booting to a 98 boot floppy in the floppy drive with the windows 98 CD in the cd drive? You may have to use fdisk to delete the old partitions before you attempt a format. Also when you type in the command it should look like this: format C:

Hey Smokey...I got it!! Typed FDISK/STATUS and three drives showed up....I was thinking there were partitions but figured I'd just format through them...yeah, right...I needed a kick in the right direction from 'ya and thanks loads....I've read all about this formatting thing but this was my first time getting in there and doing it. Deleted all the partitions and created one drive {6gigs} and was very pleased when the Windows 98 setup screen came up...Thanks for the kick in the right direction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Ken, I missed your post on the 26th after mine. I'm glad it all worked out for you.
