you know those certain emails that you sometimes get about someone in another country wanting you to send funds if they can come live in the United States and then they'll give you so many millions of dollars? well,my dad and step-mom got scammed into this(mostly step-mom) and they have so far sent $20,000.00 to this scam. The scam people needed a few thousand here for a "presidential seal" and then they said they would send the millions but then they needed a few thousand dollars for something else and so dad would send more hoping to get his millions(he's elderly BTW) but my question is,Does anyone know if there is a place we can contact besides the FBI that will look into this and possilby get the money refunded back to my dad or if there is a person that deals specifically with these problems or what? he may now have to sell his car just to remain living and I feel really bad for him. Thanks for any suggestions or ideas.

DP--that is really sad! Most of those scams come from Nigeria and I have seen reports where people were actually enticed into going to Nigeria where they were taken for practically everything but the clothes on their backs and were lucky to escape with their lives. I am afraid that it is extremely unlikely that your folks will ever get their money back. The most important thing now is to make sure that they do not send more money. Beyond the FBI, I haven't a clue who might be able to help--maybe some one on the forum will have ideas. Good Luck!

I feel sorry for your folks, but as Fran stated, there is no way, I know of to recover those money.
Simply, there is not international laws allowing one country to chase, and arrest people in another country.
There is Interpol, but it only takes care, and cooperate in between members countries, in some extreme cases....

:fat_face_sad: I can't help - but I wanted you to know that I think it is very sad. The people who fall for these scams are the ones who can least afford it....

Thanks all, from what I know now,my dad has saved and printed out every email from those people plus documents they sent trying to say it was authentic,he will turn the case over to the FBI and as far as getting his money back,he will at least get some because some was paid into taxes of England.
