Hi I received this from my brother. Seems to me I read this a few years back, I think it was useless info then.......... :blah_blah_blah: ? your opinion would be interesting . : :fat_face_sad:  Thanks .

I recommend you do this. It's harmless and could save you some real grief.
8-)

Here is a computer trick that's really ingenious in it's simplicity.
As you may know, when and if a worm virus gets into your computer it heads straight for your e-mail address book, and sends itself to everyone in there, thus infecting all your friends and associates.
This trick won't keep the virus from getting into your computer, but it will stop it from using your address book to spread further, and it will alert you to the fact that the worm has gotten into your system.

Here's what you do:

First, open your address book and click on "new contact", Just as you would do if you were adding a new friend to your list of e-mail addresses. In the window where you would type your friend's first name, type in AAAAAAA.
Also type in the e-mail address as AAAAAAA@a.aaa Now. Here's what you've done and why it works:
The name AAAAAAA will be placed at the top of your address book as entry #1.
This will be where the worm will start in an effort to send itself to all your friends. But, when it tries to send itself to AAAAAAA, It will be undeliverable because of the phony e-mail address you entered. If the first attempt fails (which it will because of the phony address),the worm goes no further and your friends will not be infected.
Here's the second great advantage of this method:

If an e-mail cannot be delivered, you will be notified of this in your "In Box" almost immediately.Hence, if you ever get an e-mail telling you that an e-mail addressed to AAAAAAA could not be delivered, you know right away that you have the worm virus in your system. You can then take steps to get rid of it!

If everybody you know does this, then you need not ever worry about opening mail from

Great post bobc, as we both know the enemy just keeps coming and short cuts get people wasted.
So newbies and those that don't quite get this security issue thing. Need to google, search, ask questions and learn real fast what works and what utilities are required. What free utilities are needed and which ones to buy! And they must sort out the many opinions on this subject.
And the easy part is just check out this boards topic's on security and go into the archives...
besides Javacools spywareblaster, the never updated Spyware Guard (check updates manually daily on JRAM's UPDATES! Also a starting place to consider which is best to search for as he lists the major security utilites) One needs a cookie protector, M$ Anti Beta & Counter Spy a firewall and A good AV utility and a spoofer a Browser HiJacker and Scotty the dog!.
Now I use IE 6.0 and have mostly free security utilities a few paided for!
I have a clean machine as of yesterday.

Your right and also cleaned and well maintained. I check out jram's "updates' every time I stop in... And like I say it is also a start for those not sure what the need. Just copy & paste (one by one) each utility he lists for complete info in gooogle. Plus a MRU cleaner like Javacool has and a good registery cleaner. which can be found in our archives of security issues.
My post was to the less informed. To help them start and then continue to be secure. And I agree with you.
