Just wondering if anyone has any preferences regarding either of these two online scanners (Trend Micro Housecall or Panda Software ActiveScan)? I've tried them both, and I guess I would have to say I lean towards Trend Micro Housecall, because it not only scans but also offers a solution that doesn't involve your credit or check card. Of course, you can donate if you want. Panda Activescan seems to do a good job of picking things up, but in order to clean and/or delete any problems found, you have to sign up for ActiveScan Pro, which is priced good at $8.99 for six months of service. However, I have a problem entering my credit card into the browser of a computer in which any spyware was recently detected. I do understand the reasoning behind it, though.

Hi...

Both online scanners are good but I lean to Panda. I'm surprised that it asked you to upgrade to Pro. According to their site the "Free" Online scan with disinfect...

I'm running a scan right now...notice the "Disinfected" column. Sometimes Panda cannot clean something but it will let you know what the infection is and it will tell you where it is located...

Here is the "canned" that I use to post to get "posters" run the Panda scan...

Quote

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
- A new window will open...click the big "Check Now" button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your Valid Email
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
- Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
- Post Panda scan results in your next reply
Another good scan is the Ewido Anti-Malware Online scan

Also Ewido Anti-Malware full version is free to use for 14 days...it then reverts to the "free" version that is just an "on demand" scanner. Works very well. I bought a bopy of the full version because I liked it so much...

Good point. Even if Panda doesn't clean all files, it still tells you where it is. I don't know if it was the type of spyware that I had, but Spybot S&D did not pick it up, neither did Ad-Aware SE 1.06, or Microsoft Anti-Spyware, nor Trend Micro Housecall, but Panda ActiveScan did. It also found a "back door" trojan that apparently made its way onto our computer via an online timer that my wife downloaded for "free". So, I must say I was quite impressed with the detection capabilities of ActiveScan. I don't remember exactly what it said, but when it was done scanning, there were two buttons towards the bottom of the screen that said something about disinfection options, and that's where it takes you to another screen that offers the $8.99 for six months plan for online ActiveScan Pro, which I still think is a pretty good deal. Thanks for also pointing out the Ewido Online AntiMalware scanner. I think I'm going to try that one next. :fat_face_smiling:
