I have just upgraded to Win 2000 Pro on an older laptop from Win 98SE and I am trying to get into the Win 2000 equivalent of msconfig. How do i do that? Thank You. :bahama_mama:

As you have noticed, Win2000 doesn't have msconfig.exe. HOWEVER, just between you and me, the file from WinXP does work. Be sure to copy it to the same subfolder as on WinXP. And DON'T use the one from Win98, has problems.

What am I missing? Berton, how did you know he had access to XP, and would know what folder it went in?

Oldtoot, if you do not have, see 2000msconfig and see if that helps.

Woodworker, I guess since upgrading from Win98 on an older laptop to Win2000 gave me the idea a newer computer is in use and assumed it would have WinXP and that the ability to run an upgrade implies some knowledge of the workings of a computer. But then I've been taken to task before by folks who are seemingly more knowledgeable than myself.

Berton, please don't take that the wrong way. I meant nothing by it, other than how did you know. And, it is obvious I know about 1/nothing of what you know of computers.

Woodworker,

Thanks a million, worked like a charm. Machine boots twice as fast without all the programs I added starting with Windows that don't need to. Probably not telling you guys something you already know.
