No thanks to Vista. My next upgrade will be to Linux or OS10, I have had plenty of Bill and company time to move on.

I did a virus scan, that took 25min., scanned with 2 spyware program, one took over 20 min, the other about 17. I really don't miss doing that, the funny thing is I went to windows update for fun, I need 37 updates, yeah right

I don't care for the security updates but what broke the straw on the camels back was the latest advertisement feature that Microsoft will eventually force feed us. Take that along with DRM, sky high prices for their system and or their Office products and enough is enough. When I upgrade my computer I will break down at that time and switch out OS. I have no problem learning new things especially if it enables me rather than disables me, LOL.

Sorry to say guys but I love my new Laptop with Vista Ultimate... http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif
I agree with your Son-in-Law JR...I like Vista more than XP and it is pretty dang fast. I totally do not regret going with Vista! Updates are painless and fast also.
I do however totally agree with you on cost...MS is charging way to much money for their products. Like for Office, who wants to pay $$$ for a new Office suite every time a new version comes out. Even with upgrades the price is too high. Upgrades should only cost a fraction of the original price. Luckily I didn't have to pay for Office 2007...I went to a seminar and got a free copy.
If people want Vista they (I'm sure over 80%) will have to spend money on a new PC\Laptop or spend money on new Hardware. I fell into that category...my present XP PC just does not have what it takes to run Vista Ultimate so I decided on buying a new Laptop that came with Vista Ultimate. I say Vista U cuz who the heck wants to run Vista Home Basic...hehehehehe. The other 20%, mostly gamers who already have smoker PC's & Laptops, should be able to upgrade without having to purchase any hardware.
I do plan to play some more with Linux but that is on the back burner for now while I play with Vista.
Hey JR...Some info on DRM for ya if your interested...

Take Apple, you can buy DRM free music on iTunes for more money, bunch of crap. When I buy a song, it's mine, I'll do what I want with it.

I'm surprised that JT still uses windows as much as he has complained for the last several years.

Couldn't agree more, I went on the wifes machine Sunday . This is what I had to do, update 4 spyware programs, run a check volume for errors, she don't even know what that is. I'm glad the Virus program updates by itself, plus defrag runs by itself.

I don't know why anybody would want to go through that , some people do it everyday.

Jr, doing all this crap was your choice. You did NOT have to do it! I never do any of this, quit complaining and buy your wife a Mac!

No windows security updates.... no wonder you waste your time with all those spyware programs. Don't blame windows for your problems!

In fact I have one laptop with SP2 installed and only the updates that I needed to try IE7, no problems, no spyware. I didn't say anything negative about Vista, I just said my son inlaw liked it.

Smokey you know I have to whine, it goes with owning Microsoft products. I think it is a requirement going back to windows 98. Look you and I both know Mr. Gates has some pretty solid products no doubt on that, it is the intrusive attitude that chaps my hide, and most software manufacturers act as if they are doing us a favor with their products that we paid for. I am a staunchly over reactive consumer advocate that does not want to be dictated on what I do with a product once I have purchased it. How dare anyone tell me what I can do with something I paid for. It is not a lease agreement. I would love to see a class action to give us some rights. Oh Oh there I go again..................... I doth protest too much.
