Everytime I choose shutdown the window that comes up and is set on the option "sleep", Is there a way to get it to come up "shutdown" automatically. Otherwords get it to remember what you used last.

Oh, I see said the blind man.....

You can change how the shutdown/sleep buttons function in local group policies (gpedit.msc) COMPUTER CONFIGURATION > ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES > SYSTEM > POWER MANAGEMENT > BUTTON SETTINGS

[attachment=43595:attachment]

After you make this change, the box that pops up will have "shut down" showing. This also works on the vista native start menu, it changes the sleep button into an instant shut down button.

The "rest of the story":
I see said the blind man to his deaf wife as he walked into the brick wall.

Just like XP Home Edition, the Vista Home Editions (Basic and Premium)
do not have the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc). If you need that
function, you have to upgrade to Business or Ultimate. Upgrading is a rip off.

Figured it out,control panel classic view, click power, click change plan settings then click change advanced power settings, choose power buttons and lid, then click on the setting to change it. I realy think all the changes in vista compared to XP is just a sadistic way of driving us crazy.

Great tip Gary. This is a tip that will help me out on my laptop. I have Home Premium on my Lappy and have no intention to upgrade.

If you don't mind, I think it would be a good idea for you to post this tip in the computer tips forum under "Vista Computer tips" sub forum [attachment=46373:attachment]. Thanks Gary.........
