Bottom line;
It appears that there just might be some problems with nvidea drivers and SP1.
So, that means I can just sit back, relax and wait for good ol nvidea to come out with a driver that works.
However, I will say that I've not had any problemns with crashes and the like.
Based on all I've seen so far this isn't really a big problem, but it's also one that can't be resolved for the time being.
I will live with it, because I'm certainly not going to be going into my display settings or DPI settings every day.
Thanks fellows for all your help and for the time being I'm willing to let go of this animals tail and lets's call it quits on this one.
Dick

Daffy, that same driver works great for me using Vista/SP1.

Also...

I never tried Vista repair, yet, but there are two options there: going through "Install", which I understand is like installing over the top, and "Repair your computer", which is like "Repair" option in XP.
Which option are you talking about, and I'd be very glad, if you can elaborate on downsides.

First of all Broni, in Daffy's case he couldn't do a repair with his Vista disk. He would need a Vista/sp1 disk to repair his configuration.

The repair option isn't as good as xp's was. I can't quite explain what happens but it makes vista boot weird. I just didn't like it. After repairing you receive a boot menu that has a vista repair listed. You also receive weird boot screens like this after attempting a repair;

Plus after the repair, it just doesn't seem as stable. There is nothing like a clean install if you want to be problem free....

You got that right about trying a repair install. It ain't gonna happen with an older than SP1 disk. There is an option to do a clean install and I'd lose all my hard work getting the thing going with my various programs.
Can't be bothered. It's not worth the effort to reinstall from scratch.
I spent some time with the BFG guy and he also admitted that they are having some problems with SP1. SP1 changed some graphics stuff and nvidea hasn't caught up yet.
So, like I said, I'm gonna live with it. It's no biggie and perhaps when nvidea gets a new driver out all will be well.
Again fellows, I thank you for your efforts and, in the process, I think we all learned a little bit more about the idiosyncrasies of this new OS and it's latest boondoggle of a service pack.

The problem was solved with a Repair Install of Vista. The method was found here:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-re...tall-vista.html
I used a DVD with SP1 included and the repair went just fine. Just like in XP, the updates since the release of the disk had to be installed after the repair. I always do it that way so the install routine doesn't have to download the updates as part of the install.
The method of doing the repair is similar to XP with some slight modifications and either requires a DVD with SP1 from M$ or a slipstreamed DVD with SP1 added to the original disk.
Needless to say I'm a happy camper now. It was a minor annoyance, but I'm glad it's fixed.

Broni:
I'm not really sure whether the problem was there before or only after the install of SP1.
There is no reference to any nvidea stuff in the updates and besides I wouldn't allow that kind of update in from MS. I do custom updates and never have the M$ driver updates installed.
At any rate, I tried to uninstall SP1 and got an error message that not all the updates were removed.
You asked if it the problem occured in other windows and I found another one when trying to play with changing the DPI setting to see if that helped. Which it didn't.
Smokey: You remarked about my icon size still being in another size and I got to thinking. I changed the icon size to classic size and that made no difference.
I've set my dtop icons to be medium size. It makes them easier to see for me.
Here's a screen shot of another of the windows that doesn't show all the info.

I'm wondering if there is a different driver for the monitor and if that would help.
I will check into this and get back.
Dick
I didn't read all the information so I 'm just going to add something to the pot if it helps... then great. what resolution does your monitor support :bald_head:
and how old are they... this maybe the reason.
