Generally, you create a shortcut by right- clicking an item and selecting 'create shortcut.' If that doesn't work, someone here will have a better option.

dragging it should be okay,But heres how to create a shortcut
1. Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
2. Click Browse.
3. Locate the program or file to which you want to create a shortcut, click the program or file, click Open, and then click Next.
4. Type a name for the shortcut. If a Finish button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it. If a Next button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it, click the icon you want to use for the shortcut, and then click Finish.
Thanks JRAM for the new Computer.

I knew someone would quickly pop up with the correct method. By the way, it's easier with a Mac!

Be very careful that you don't move the actual .exe file, could cause some programs not to work.

Tip: if you want to get to it quickly right-click the shortcut/icon and choose Pin to Start Menu, it will show up in the left column when clicking the Start button.

Tip: if you use the Quick Launch Toolbar you can right-click a shortcut, drag it to the QL Toolbar, wait for the vertical black bar to show then release, choose Copy Here.

Don't be afraid of Windows, with XP and Vista there's at least three ways to accomplish something, sometimes four or five.

I right clicked on it - but it didn't show all programs.
Then I right clicked on it and create shortcut - this appeared below Wordpad, then I dragged it to the desktop and dragged it to the quick launch toolbar.
I shall remember 'copy here' with the quick launch toolbar. http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
