---Hello - I am hoping someone can help me out please:

---I have my daughters cicero that acquired a virus. I formatted the drive and did a clean install of XP pro and am unable to use any of the USB ports.
---OS - Win XP Pro
---The USB requirements in the Device Manager are as shown:
SIS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SIS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SIS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
Unknown Device
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
---I managed to find the SIS7001 Drivers at "Drivers-R-Us"
---Attempted to do a driver update and it seemed to install ok but turned out to be a ruse - thus the two "SIS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controllers"
---Restarted the computer and and inserted a Kingston 4Gb Data Traveller which caused the computer to reboot. (screen went black and the computer rebooted). It did this consistently. This device works just fine on my Dell XPS.
---So, being the noob I am - I did another install of windows and now I am afraid to breathe on this thing.
---Is there a sequence that I am missing? :bald_head:

---There is also a problem under "Other devices" - being Multimedia Audio Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible) which I am sure are also driver related.

Thanks

John

The best way is to run any Recovery disc/s that came with the machine or from the Recovery partition on the HDD according to instructions from the maker. Otherwise I'd do a clean install of WinXP using the WinXP disc and a Full Format. Since an infection is involved I prefer using GPARTED and deleting the partition first, WinXP will recreate it before formatting and installing.

If one doesn't have the driver disc that came with the machine or the drivers are not in the Recovery data they should be downloaded to have at hand to install after installing WinXP.

After all the devices are working install any Service Pack not included such as SP2 or SP3. Last installation I did included SP2 but there were still 104 updates to accomplish not including SP3 and IE7. Makes SP3 attractive.

---Good morning - thanks for the response. The odds of my daughter finding the recovery disk would be a pretty tall order http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
---I also have been sniffing around and found some information on SIS 7001 and Win XP issues.
---I will remove the recovery partition first as you suggested.

Sursohog, Did you get this straightened out yet? A word of advice. NEVER use a Driver Site for your drivers. That's your only problem. You need the drivers for all of those components in Device Manager and they can always be found at the computer manufactures site for you to download as Berton mentioned. The "SIS7001" is just the name of the chipset on the motherboard not the brand or model of the computer. If you can flip that computer over and post the model, brand, and ID of that lappy we can find the proper drivers for you.

BTW, here's a link for a windows clean install even though it sounds like you preformed the install correctly;

Cicero SP2520E P4 2.5GHz Computer

Initial OS - Windows xp Home Edition - Seanix Technology (I will be installing Win XP Pro)

---During the start-up we also have this little goody:

Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810X Boot Agent - Press F10 to configure

--If everesthome would provide any additionl information you would need please let me know.

Good lord this is a difficult one. Everest won't be much help for you. Everest gets it's info from the hardware drivers. Try this PCI/USB Driver Fix to see if we're headed in the right direction;

In the beginning of this thread you said that you installed XP PRO and in your last post you said "(I will be installing Win XP Pro)", which is it?

---Sorry for the confusion - This system came with the XP Home edition - I thought it might be of some help. I did install and will install Xp Pro.
---Thanks for the attachement. Ran it and it made no difference. Plug in my USB device - windows recognizes it - installs drivers etc..........msg comes up and says "USB Device not recognized"

Does this still show up in device manager after a reboot?

sursohog, Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore and create a restore point named "Pre-Driver Agent". Then go to THIS SITE and let it scan you computer for the drivers you need.
I don't care to use sites like this but in your case you don't have too many choices. You always have that restore point for insurance.

Note: If you have another USB device laying around especially if it's not 2.0 try it.

---Hi Smokey - just got home (still work'in for the man) and thanks for the link. They will do a scan of your system for a mere $29.95 - will find a work-around for that one.

There may be a price to pay when the company that builds a computer doesn't exist anymore. If you spend enough time you may find some compatible drivers that might work.

It's 83° here now. I'm wearing shorts and a t-shirt. HEHEHE!!!
