Well, I talked earlier about my wife was looking real hard at a Acer Aspire one at wally world a couple weeks ago. Yesterday while shopping in the same store, it had dropped in Price from $ 359.00 to $298.00. She looked at me with Puppy eyes, so i said, I'll get it for ya if you give me your old IBM T23. So she is now the proud owner of one of these Purse Netbooks. Its got the Intel Atom processor, 1gig of ram, 120 gig sata hd 5400 rpm.
Runs Windows Xp so she is a happy camper. I'm gonna transfer all her docs and files on the IBM T23 to a external USB 200 gig hardrive I have (Rocketfish), and after everything is off that she wants off, I'm bumping up the ram and installing Ubuntu or MoonOS on it. Haven't decided yet. I bought her a Bluetooth wireless USB dongle also so she can Sync the Aspire wirelessly with her Palm Zire 72. She's been playing with it constant like. It's alot faster than her old IBM T23 Laptop.

I have been contemplating on what flavor of Linux to run on it. so far my choices seem endless.
1 Ubuntu
2. Mepis
3. Sidux
4. MoonOS
5 PCLINUXOS
6. Linux Mint
7. Puppy LXDE or Puppy Dingo
8. Damn Small Linux
9. Vector Linux
10. Zenwalk
11. Arch
12. Slackware (but I don't have the skillset yet)
13. Elive

It's like being in a Baskin Robbins or Ben and Gerrys Icecream store. My choices are endless while my hours are limited. Sigh. :bald_head:

Any Hows, the wife likes her new mini rig. http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/kiss_you.gif

Sounds like you both got what you want... http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/bravo!.gif http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif

I mentioned in another post that we just bought a new Dell Mini 9. Not a bad unit...we got it with a 16GB SSD.

What will you do with her IBM T23? Will you put Ubuntu on it?

I hope Holly enjoys her new computer - it sounds as if she's enjoying it already!

My wife is interested in one like that I may take a look at it if they have any left.

fairlopgirl, I just cleaned out about 40 gigs of stuff she had on the Hardrive. I slimmed Windows XP down to 6 gigs. I defragged with iobit and compressed files, (in Windows XP defragger), to where everything blue is on the left of hardrive. I used gparted iso to compress Windows Xp partition to about 40 gigs and left 30 for whatever struck my fancy.

I formatted 29 gig as a root (in linux that symbol is a /) partition and formatted it as a primary ext.3 partition.
I then took the 1 gig left over and formatted it as a swap(in windows this is called virtual memory) and formatted it as swap-primary

I then tried a few distros and ZevenOS (a German distro based on Ubuntu and Beos) seems to work ok. So for right now I am going to try a dual boot it with XP and ZevenOS. Right now it is installed, both operating systems boot up OK. Wired internet works, Wireless G Belkin F5D7010 PCMCIA works in Windows. Have to do a little tweaking to get it working in ZevenOS. Responding to your question right now using Firefox in ZevenOS right now.

They had a bunch in my store here in Pecos and it is a little Walmart.

Since yesterday Fairlopgirl I blew away the ZevenOS install and am now running Zenwalk on that T23.

I don't understand what you did - you are ahead of me! I thought you were going to do something simple like Linux - not that I understand Ubuntu! :oh_my_god: http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/bravo!.gif http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/yahoo.gif
