Microsoft gives me a royal pain. So I get some updates today, and one is KB928366 which is and update for Net frame work 1.1. It won't install and so I go into add/remove and see what I have in there and I do have version 1.1. 2.0 3.5 and wonder just why this is needed and what coding engineer has poop for brains not check OS on the various platforms for compatibility prior to issuing update.
I Find out it is not friendly with XP SP2 and the fix is to use cleanup tool, download and remove than reinstall net framework in sequential order so it will take. That is a un-official fix on a few computer repair sites.

My solution, un-check the damn thing and leave it as is for a few months than I will see if the knuckleheads can manage to to get it adjusted for a proper install.

Have we outsourced updates to Bangladesh or are these folks for real?

.net Framework is a royal pain in the behind. You need to install them in order. First .net Framework 1.1 AND all it's service (and language) packs. Then 2.0 and all it's packs. Then 3.0 and all it's packs etc. You may have to use the Custom button in order to get the service (and language) packs. Not the Express button on Microsoft Update's site.

What you could do is to keep trying. I got mine slipped in after 20 or so attempts. You could also install 3.0 and see if that facilitates the install of the one you mention.

Also update Windows Installer if necessary. The newest one is 4.5.

You'll also need Windows Installer CleanUp Utility because .net Framework is clogging the installer all the time. Try that first. Maybe this will do the trick for you. Here:

I know what to do and although appreciate your response, my comment was I am not going to that. I find it ludicrous that any one of us has to go behind Microsoft with a broom because their software engineers are so damn sloppy.
