Yes, I feel guilty that the only time I seem to come here is when I need help! OK, so now that that's out of the way..... http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Since I don't know if this is hardware, software or OS related, I thought I would put the post here.

I did a new build with the following basics:

Antec 900 case
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo, Wolfdale 8400 CPU
4 GB RAM
Geforce GTX 260 Core 16
Antec 650 watt power supply
500 GB WD SATA hard drive
HP SATA optical drive
Siig card reader/floppy combo drive

All went well until I began installing the OS. For reasons that there are some things I want to do with Media Center, I got XP Media Center Edition 2005 for now. I want nothing to do with Vista and plan on wiping the drive when the bugs are out of Windows 7 and installing it.

I set the BIOS to AHCI and did a couple of other things suggested in the Mobo manual. Put in disc 1 and watched the files and drivers load. I did copy the SATA drivers to a floppy, but since the OS has SP2, didn't think I would need them. Then it went to "starting windows" and I got an 0x000007B stop error telling me to check for viruses, disconnect any newly installed HDD or controllers and make sure they were properly configured and terminated.

So this time I did the F6 and when prompted, inserted the floppy which presented 4 options, none of which was the one the Mobo manual said I should see - ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller. Trying to use any of them caused an error "file iastor.sys caused an unexpected error (4096) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm......."

Continuing caused the Stop Error.

The Mobo has 6 orange SATA connectors and 2 purple Gigabyte SATA2 SATA connectors for RAID. I changed the HDD from an orange connector to a purple connector and then copied the drivers for them to the floppy. This time one of the options was XP/2003 RAID/AHCI driver for JMicron JMB36X controller as indicated in the Mobo manual. This time there was no "unexpected error" message, but at the end I got the stop error.

Is Media Center my problem? Have I missed something? The 500 GB HDD is recongnized during boot up.

I don't mean to stack posts, but I thought I would let anyone know who might have been curious, that I solved the problem. Someone at the TechGuy forums suggested several things, one of which was the ACHI setting in the BIOS which was recommended in the Mobo manual for the SATA2 HDD. I reseated the RAM to make sure that was OK and changed that BIOS setting to "disabled" and the next try was the charm!

I now have my really excellent new build up and running. And I must say that Tomb Raider Underworld looks drop-dead gorgeous on it!
