I can't seem to find the way to have Vista logon automatically without going through the password logon each boot up. If I walk away 20-30 minutes and come back, screen is black and if I hit enter, I have to go through the password logon again. I've went int the control panel /admin controls/user accounts and tried to untick the user account control off and restarted but stikll had to logon again. I tried a method suggested by a friend to type netplwiz in the Search For and hit enter but was told "No items match your search". Any suggestions to opt out of this password logon every time? I tried turning off User Account control in the control panel to no avail

First you could try to customize your cookies settings so that you specifically permit Smartest Computing's cookies. Here a Microsoft article about it. Next do the same for trusted sites zone - again Microsoft's article about it here. Then go over your firewall settings and make sure that you specify that Smartest Computing's site and cookies are allowed and/or trusted. Finally: some boards have an option for members/users to specify how long they wish to stay logged in. I've just been looking for such a feature here but I didn't find it. But if it's here that could be it.

I'm sorry, that I didn't have anything better to suggest. http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/blush.gif

http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif The cavalry is here! It's a Vista issue. Wouldn't have guessed that. Thanks Broni.

What is this sleep thing with Vista? I never ran across that with XP. No problem with it requiring a password upon "awakening" Broni, I guess that I didn't explain very well. When I first boot up in the mornings or evening, it requires a password to access programs, etc. I want to eliminate the necessity of having to do that with each boot or restart and couldn't find the place to do that.

First, you said:

If I walk away 20-30 minutes and come back, screen is black and if I hit enter, I have to go through the password logon again.
so I gave you solution for that, but now, you're saying something different:

When I first boot up in the mornings or evening, it requires a password
Do you mean login screen?

No, I didn't say nothing different. I just happened to find how to fix that between the timer I asked about it and the time you responded and didn't word it right.I 've been on this thing half the day and my mind has gone to mush. sorry about that.

That last link you gave is good but no cigar. It indicated in step 4 that "In the "Make changes to your user account" section, click the Remove your Password link for the user.

I don't have that option as it's not there. This is all I have following the instructions.

I don't understand. I can clearly see a "Remove your password" option in that screenshot...

Is this something about "run as administrator"?

OK-It's another day and I have my composure back. Thanks for the info Broni, all is well. Sometimes we just get too many things going and they begin to run together...the perils of getting older.
