I have obtained the lab provided ICC profile for my labs Agfa printer to install on my system so I can be assured the photo I'm looking at on screen that I want enlarged will look just like the print they make. In order to do this I have to be in the same color profile they do and have their profile installed on the computer, to make it simple. They sent me the file the other day to install but according to instructions with my post processing software, it needs to be in Windows/System 32/spool/Drivers/color. I don't have a "spool" in Vista and don't know where to install this .icc file they sent me. XP has this but I don't see it ini Vista. It comes close but no Spool. Where would it be? This is all I could find...

It's complicated, JR and I've had a time with it all but I'm beginning to see the light now. I found "spool" just a minute ago. I had scrolled down too far looking for it alphabetically and it was closer to the top, not easy to spot. Once I found it I dragged the attached .icc file I had been sent from mhyk lab into the spool/color...and it took it as another added profile which is what I wanted since I can now use it to soft proof my pics while doing post processing. The soul purpose of all this is to be able to get a print back from the lab you use that looks identical to what you see on the monitor-no surprises when you got to pick up that 11x14 or 16x20 as you know the print will look like what you want it to be without any too dark/too light/color off, etc. Pain in the butt but it works.

The dlab_.icc file is what I needed to have and finally got it loaded.

It's a great piece of equipment and about long overdue. You won't believe how hard I wrestled with this vs the imac. I nearly sweated bullets but thought I could handle this better as it was a Windows based system. The cost differential wasn't' the case it was my confidence in how long I could get up and running with it. Us old timers don't like change you know but, I'd still love to have it. That MacBook Pro must be a real honey-out of my league but I know you'll love it. I'm still in the process of learning Vista as I'm two years behind everyone else.

I'm so glad to hear that you are getting your issues sorted out. Any new system is a chore to learn for old minds. They moved a key on the keyboard on my new Mac and I am having a hard time with that small change. Anyway, I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your new machine. Jmac and I are very happy with our new Macs!

Little by little, Fran. I think I've just begun to touch the tip of the iceberg, however as this was just one issue but, an important one. I'd say you guys are euphoric with the new machines you have. I got an email just day before yesterday from Apple showing the new imac's and saw they had the 20-inch iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M installed with up to 8G of RAM available. That's enticing they are a beautiful computer. I have the capability of adding up to 12G of RAM on this one but currently the 6G is working just fine and the monitor is light years ahead of my older CRT. I don't think I could have went wrong either way choosing one over the other and it was a painful choice. Who knows, with my tax return, I may get the imac anyway!! No one to complain about it but Bubba and he don't say a word. http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
