Hi, I have just re-install myXP pro SP2 in my PC not too long ago.

I have been getting ramdom freeze on the PC.

when i open word or the internet... doesn't matter what program i go into. i do believe it is my ram but let me tell you more..

i thought it maybe acronis after i restore my backup and it did the same.

so, i re-install xp and install the mobo drivers, audio , network drivers.

i started to get the freeze as soon as i connect the 7500 westell modem drivers.

i went into safe mode and nothing happen, meaning it did not lock up.

i restarted the pc and the pc froze up after the XP logo with the blue screen saying XP before the login.

i hope i made that clear.... sometimes when the pc does freeze, i have to hit the reart button to restart the pc.... that's the only way.

then i get IDE... nothing else and can't get into bios.

The only way is to shut down the pc all the way and start it back up and pray that it sees my drives.

I have a "PX865PEC PRO"

If there's anymore info you need... let me know.

I'm going to check the ram first anyway... just incase

Thanks again guys! http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

If you're getting any BSODs....

Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.

Try also this...

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all

Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.

Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.

NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.

Boots fine?

I just looked this up myself. I wanted to see what my minidump folder had in store. But much to my surprise it turned out that I don't have a minidump folder. This doesn't exist on my PC (XP Home). How come?

EDIT: Google is your friend - found it in a Microsoft article here.

I can't send the wrar file, i keep getting an error when i add the attachment

also, i did go into msconfig startup and services.

didn't work and this is a fresh install. the only thing that may has been in services is Nvidia and avg antivirus.

also, everytime my pc boots up it will see the XP logo and go black sometimes and when it does login... it will freeze.

i took all my ram out.... i only have one in there now. that is how i got the minidump file to my external drive.

if i didn't have already a full backup i wouldn't have re-install the drive. LOL

now i have 512mb ram before it was 4gb

Thanks again Broni!

You're getting CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION error, and the culprit is listed as:
MODULE_NAME: hardware_disk

It may look like a clear issue, but it's not.
All, we know is, that it's most likely caused by some hardware issue, hard drive possible, but not necessarily.

Are we talking here about some internal modem? Dial-up?

DSL verizon

i did hear some strange noise from the fan then it stop, could the fan be going :bald_head:

i figure it was a hardware issue... i don't think it's RAM.

is there a program i can down load to test the ram, harddrive... just incase i maybe wrong about the fan then again... you never know.

you might want to move this problem to hardware.

Thanks again!

External modem?
They don't need any drivers, as far, as I know.

Overnight is perfectly enough, if no errors detected.

Proceed to HD test.

already have and it looks good!

you can't test the heatsink and fan which it maybe and i would be shock if the PSU is going since it's not that old and new... then again you never know but that would be my next step. I did order a new heatsink and fan, i'll let you know.

Thanks again!

Hi Broni, i try the fan and it didn't work. "it still does freeze... it may have restarted once but not sure.

I'm going to put a different video card and see what happens. The video card I have in there is new.. but doesn't mean it's working as good as it says. Everything is becoming a Mystery... :bald_head:
I'll keep you posted.

This here is an article about a so called "Clean Start" in XP. I don't know if it could be of any help: http://support.micro...kb/310353/en-us

The method is used when you try to diagnose a problem.
