Well Spider, I know you are looking for a Windows Version for what you wish to do. Normally I try to stay out of Windows related problems like these. But if you feel like learning something new. Linux has this available as an option. I'm just posting this as a option. No need to try it out if you don't want to. It's free to use though. And just another choice. Sorry about you getting hacked.

Hi rokytnji, I didn't know you couldn't get hack with Linux. I know you don't need no antivirus or spyware.

I do have LInux os 2007 and mini me..... just not sure which one to install... i'll check this link out anyway.

Thanks again!

I do have LInux os 2007

I would not install that one. Minnie Me (PCLOS) is ok but the desktop (GUI) might be a little hard for a new user to understand. Linux OS is a poor example of what a Linux operating system is capable of. Just google Linux OS 2008 to see why I said this. Your boxes are capable of running the best Linux has to offer. My Picks for a install and if dohbar gets the time I'm sure he will chime in.

1. Linux MINT http://www.linuxmint.com/download.html

2. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS http://www.ubuntu.co...ubuntu/download

3. Mepis http://www.mepis.org/mirrors

4. PCLOS http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?option=...s&Itemid=28
These are the 4 Linux operating systems aka (distros) that I recommend to anybody trying to migrate from Windows. I always suggest they keep their Windows install and start out by doing a dual boot installation of Linux. The Linux Help section in this forum is full of helpful links on this subject. Now, You have to learn to think differently when using a linux operating system because Linux is not Windows

I'd also wait and see if other forum members come up with some good windows software for your hijack troubles also before diving off into the deep end of the Linux world. That Backtrack link I gave you is a Live CD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD.

Hi rokytnji, Thanks for the tip ... i don't think I was hack on my XP computer or Vista only because i didn't see any clues to that nature. LIke the PC would freeze, the PC would run slower, ect.

I did hear from my bank that some gas station have some computer chip so they can get your whole number or somewhere else.

I did have Linux OS install as a duel boot system but it always seem to either crash on me or give me some other problem.

I did download BackTrack 4 beta release... is that a good (GUI)?

also, can i play game for Linux on this one without problems too?

Thanks again!

you can try, I don't run Backtrack so I can't tell ya. One of the other distro links I gave you would be better for gaming, Backtrack is a security orientated distro.

Hi rokytnj, I'm downloading the Linux Mint main edition. I guess this would be better then Linux OS 2007 :bald_head: Just making sure I understand you right on The Linux Subject.

I would rather Learn More about Linux because i know how Microsoft can be.

I'm still going to keep my XP only because some of my friends have issus with windows and i still like to learn how to fix them too.

however, down the road, Linux will be my main OS.

Thanks again!

Yep, much better. Think of Mint as Ubuntu with codecs, Have fun with it. You can use the How to dual boot install links (Ubuntu how to is good, so is the <epis one) in the other Threads in Linux section. Have fun with it spider, I do.

Hi rokytnji, I got Linux Mint up !

I had to install it in xp instead of booting up from the disk because for some reason it didn't work.

I did my updates and installed my video driver... i also had an extra drive that i'm using for data back up.

I try out runescape and so far i don't even get any problems... Man, when i had os 2007.. My pc would just freeze.

game, application problems and all.
I'll let you know if runescape give me a problem but i don't think it will.

www.runescape.com

I have no problems with any app on this OS.

you are the best dude ever.

Thanks again!

Hi rokytnji, I got Linux Mint up !

Glad to hear it. I run it on my Shop Desktop. Got a friend dohbar can tell ya about, who made a 15 in 1 Multiboot DVD that I tested out for him and Mint was one of the distros on it so I went ahead and installed it as part of testing and decided to leave it on it,

Hi rokytnji, I'll keep this in mind when i get better with Linux! http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

I do have one question... after the updates i restarted the PC and it would not let me boot up.. i restarted again... this time when i hit linux.. after that i hit the "ESC" then the Kernel that I needed to use... there was a list there even Memtest.

anyway, it did start up.

I just found that strange... :scared_sh++_out_of_me: other then that the pc runs great.
Thanks again!

Might have been a hiccup is all I can think of. Windows hiccups more than Linux in my house though. I'm always corralled into fixing Windows Laptops for my wifes friends. They seem to think because I use Linux that that turns me into a Windows/Computer Guru. Far from it though.

Hi Spider, glad that Roky is helping you out...a good man for Linux questions. Of the Linux flavors that I've been playing with, My favorites are...

1) Ubuntu 8.10
2) Mint Linux
3) Mepis - Just recently installed so don't have much of an opinion yet.

I really like Ubuntu as I've worked with it the most...been tweaking the hell out of it...LOLOLOL. Mint is good and am enjoying working with it.

That's how I also installed Mint....I used the same 15-in-one DVD...very nice tool... http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif

Hi dobhar, I figure it would be you.

Mint works great unlike pcLinux 2007 which always seem to crash and never get back up.

The only thing is I get Java errors when i go to runescape after login off... unlike 2007.. when I was playing runscape it would freeze and shut me down and disconnect me but, it doesn't so far with mint. Just get the Java error but it still plays the game.

I'll make a new post if it does happen.

Nice to here from you. http://www.smartestc...tyle_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
