My recent installation of I.E 8 in my Dell laptop went off without a hitch. BUT...the mail icon within I.E. 8 defaults to a set up screen for Dell Net/MSN Explorer. Within I.E. 8 going to Tools-Internet Options-Programs and setting Outlook Express as the default mail program has no effect. Anyone have directions or a link to directions to end the minor "hijack." This is more of a nuisance and irritation than a crisis. But it bugs me no end. Windows XP pro is the OS
Thanks - Paul

Haven't found a solution other than not to use IE8 on WinXP. Vista dropped Outlook Express and has IE7 along with Windows Mail and Windows Contacts instead of Windows Address Book. Mail and Contacts look a lot like the replaced versions. Since Win7 comes with IE8 and no E-Mail Client could be Microsoft wants people to use other Clients or Windows Live Mail or Windows Live Essentials.

Right you are Berton...I suspect there is an instruction in the registry which makes this happen...some sort of advertising lash up between Dell and Microsoft. Not a big deal really...
I dread the transition to Windows 7....there's always so many loose ends on new operating systems.
I think I'll hang on to XP as long as i can.
