Although people without experience in messing with the registry shouldn't use this, as it can cause a big problem and there are many techs here that don't recommend it at all. Just beware......

This is what I use......... http://majorgeeks.co...eaner_d460.html

As Peggy said, registry cleaners shouldn't be used, because they bring no gain, and on the other hand, one wrong registry item removed, and you end up with non-bootable computer.

no problem because I think it's a new problem.

I reinstall his PC for him.

The PC is slow as hell.

250 PSU
Nvidia 32mb
256 ram
1.5 cpu pentium

I even went into the servies end disable some of the features that he doesn't need.

I put in a 400PSU and it went a little faster but not much.

I'm ready to test the ram, but something tells me that this isn't it.

I know it's not the video card.

Thanks and i hope I didn't confuse anybody!

I had to take a seat back and think, with all the hell going on in this house today... i took a walk and came back and took the heatsink and fan off and what did i see?

I saw no compound on the CPU. All dried up!

I put some on and now she is running good.

you would think it was ram, but from what it look like, my gut told me different.

Thanks for being here Broni while i was in the :blonde_moment:

Lucky him :dancin_banana: :dancin_banana: :dancin_banana:

I do wonder if i should tell him to buy a new heatsink and fan but it seems find right now.
Thanks again!

I think what Broni is trying to tell you Spider is that to run Xp comfortably you will need to tell your buddy that he needs to bump up his ram to 512mb. 256mb is a little weak for XP but ok for 2000 Pro.

I always thought the requirements was 128mb for XP?

My friend has SD Ram .. this maybe the reason why it's running a little slow compare to DDR1 and 2 Ram which is way faster

I'll let him know but let me know you think and thanks.

It may run but sure does not take long to have to clean out the cache on that machine. I am running 3.75gb of ram on XP Pro, and for and old machine that I have it still flies.

Real minimum for XP would be 512MB, 1GB preferable.

Actually the "requirement" is 64MB and the recommended was 128MB!

However, MS has lied about "requirements" for years. Not that systems won't work with MS minimums or recommendations, just that the "user experience" sucks! Your friend will see a dramatic improvement in boot time, program load time, and, in general, faster overall response times with an increase in memory.

SD memory is relatively expensive but for $30 +/- he can upgrade to 512MB. If your friend does any photo/video editing, opens many programs at once, etc, 1 GB would be preferable if the motherboard can handle it - which it most likely can. ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....&name=512MB )

For memory testing, try this: http://www.memtest.org/.

I agree with that however, I did mention to him to buy a new PC in the future because the Ram is old and the technology is changing.

His only going to upgrade one part after another in time. That will cost a lot for an old PC. Plus I'm not a fan of SD RAM

It takes about 5 min for XP to load completes. his find for now.

Thanks for the help guys!

Not to quibble, but, DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 are all variations of SDRAM - newer and faster implementations of the original "single" SDRAM spec.

DDR transfers data twice as fast as its sdram counterpart. You just agree with me, this is why I'm no Fan of SDRAM. Big difference even if they are all Variation of SDRAM.

I also Know but thanks for the info.
