I recently ran Belarc and noticed there was a critical update (KB967715) missing from my computer.
I got busy and installed it not noticing that it had been installed in March 2009.

The install failed and since then the MS installer has been flashing about every 8 minutes.

When I first boot up the MS Installer stays on saying preparing to install long enough for me to hit cancel. However it doesn't cancel anything.Then a flash of installer stays on all the time.

I have tried all my clean up programs and also downloaded MS Installer Cleanup Utility.

I have contacted Microsoft and they requested I send them a WindowsUPdate.log which I did.
Now waiting for a reply from them.

Has anyone else had this problem? Appreciate any ideas you may have.
I am running XP pro.

Thanks for the suggestion Broni. I did try system restore. I could only go back until the day after my problem started so that didn't solve the problem. Darn anyway

Try to uninstall KB967715, and then install it again.

I deleted the update and then installed again.
The problem is still with me.

I contacted MS techs because it is an update problem.

They have decided after much searching that maybe its a corrupt file.
Waiting to hear from them as to what to do next.

I finally got the flashing problem solved.
I downloaded Windows Installer Cleanup.

I couldn't delete anything from it because my event viewer log was full.

When I went into preferences for event viewer and set to not save so many events, then it allowed me to delete in Windows Installer Cleanup.
The error message I received was Run-time error 2147024882. When I googled that it told me what to do.

Selected and removed all items in installer cleanup so now I am back to normal.

Just thought I would update how I solved the problem
