My wife wanted a new computer, I couldn't talk in into a Mac. People always says Mac is more expensive than a PC, the Mac crowd including myself responds, if you compare them with the same specs they will be close in cost. Well, I want to debunk that myth. I customized a laptop, I think my Mac would have been 9,000 $ Posted Image
Add another 120 for tax, only 1 year warranty , I can get another 2 years added for a couple hundred, this covers accidents to.

Oh no! Windows is coming too close to our Mac man. Actually this will be a good thing--he will learn the new system so that he can help others who have problems. I hope Mrs. JMAC will enjoy her new machine as much as we enjoy our Macs.

Yeah, I'll play around with it, just like anything new.. I wanted to get her a laptop with a little zip, not the fastest but surely not the slowest neither. Big display, fast HD, lots of memory. She does many things at once without knowing it lol. I always see the task bar full of programs, this laptop should work better for her.

I'll bet she can hardly wait for the new machine's arrival. We'll all be anxious to hear your review of the new system.

I'm impressed with Windows 7, the shutdown and start up is pretty quick. I love the new task bar (I wonder where they got that from) . To tell the truth, I'm pretty lost right now checking out everything. I did my first Malwarebytes scan. I removed what the nasties I had, could of been false positives, don't know. This is a HP laptop, it's got more crap on here.. You can tell it's a windows world, flash runs great on here, cpu stays low. Every time I click on a program like CCleaner, it doesn't run without asking me permission, I have to get rid of that crap.

I've read several articles about Windows 7. A lot of it has a definite Mac look to it. But, it is still Microsoft and will need to be well protected to run safely. I hope our friends will find it to be a great improvement over Vista and will enjoy their new system as much as we are enjoying our new Snow Leopard.

I'm done setting it up, thank God. Don't get me wrong, Windows 7 is nice, real nice. But............I had to get spywareblaster, malwarebytes, antivir, the list goes on.
I got nailed pretty fast, though it was probably crap HP installed or false positive. As nice as 7 is, OS X is better , at least for me, easier to use, no wasted moves, they got the task bar right, about time. The one thing I will miss though is having flash run the cpu at 09% instead of 60%. I love the way when you start any browser the web site jumps at you when loading for the first time. To many moves for me, of course I didn't know what I was doing. Posted Image I will admit one thing, I tried Safari, Apple loaded everything else, QT, bonjour , etc etc They even put something in my startup, that sucks. My Mac is a little faster, my shutdown was a little faster, 7 started a little faster, hard to believe but true. I think they might have gotten their act together. My Mac weighs a few pounds less with a smaller keyboard, all and all I was surprised. But, back to my Mac Posted Image

Just got off the new laptop, uninstalled norton and a crap load of HP stuff, tweaked it up pretty good. I won't miss it though, Mac still rocks, I'm into the cool-aid now. Everything just seems easier on my Mac, no wasted moves. uninstalling programs on 7 is pretty fast, even Norton, but nothing compares to dragging a program to the trash, then no fooling with the reg. Got some Windows updates, pretty quick, no surprises .. That Areo GUI is pretty neat, nicer than OS X. I like the task bar as much as my dock, works the same way.

I forgot a couple of things, my Mac programs like Thunderbird, opera , FF, and Safari are faster on my Mac, the response time is faster and the programs GUI is nicer, but that's me. windows downloads the same files or programs faster than OS X. I had both laptops open side by side downloading opera , Windows downloaded at 1.4 MB, Mac 700-900 kb/s I did it 3 or 4 times in a row, Windows always won, no biggy, but...it's a Windows world full of monsters and nasties Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Whew, I was afraid you'd be lured away from our Snow Kitty! I do hope Mrs. JMAC will enjoy her new toy and you will be able to advise Windows users as well.

I would never be drawn away from my Mac. My wife hasn't even used it yet, she keeps making excuses. I just want to tweak it for her, get updates etc etc ..There is no comparing how much easier Mac is to use. Posted Image

I've used both laptops side by side, alone numerous time the last week, my findings. First the browsers, Safari, FF, Chrome beta are faster on my Mac, Opera is faster on Windows, the interface is nicer, the fonts crispier , everything just looks better on my Mac. Windows 7 is a nice OS, the candy is real nice with no slowdown, the task bar reminds me of the OS X dock. There is so much HP junk programs installed it's hard to know what to get rid of, I did a virus scan just to see if I could do anything else while the scan was running, on my old desk top I couldn't, I could do anything I wanted to without missing a beat, including watching a youtube video, no slowdown at all. I really did enjoy watching videos without the high cpu usage, Mac sucks when it comes to that, flash is a cpu burner on my Mac. Things do get done faster on my Mac probably because I know Leo better than 7. Uninstalling programs is quicker than XP, but nothing beats dragging a program to the trash with no registry to worry about. All and all Windows 7 is a nice OS much better than XP.

It all seems to boil down to what we are used to using. My mind set is so 'Mac' now that I feel like a bull in a china shop on my old XP machine--I guess I felt that way when I used that system. One thing's sure--I don't have as many problems with my Mac as I did with Windows.

I fired up the laptop, I can see why I still love my mac, Windows lives in dirty seedy world. Just surfing, minding my own business, then boom !
