What is a good defragger for win 7 ?

I got rid of Diskeeper sometime back after I got Vista, and don't want to spend 45-50bucks for a defragger. I tried Defraggler, too slow on my 640gb hard drive.

Any good suggestions?

Well I downloaded installed it and ran it, not too impressed yet, gave me a time of 3 hours and 20 minutes to complete. I will run it when I am not busy using the computer and see if may be a little quicker.

It has an option to run in the background.
Only first defrag takes time.
All next ones are lightning fast.
It runs in the background only, if your computer is idle, so it doesn't take any resources from programs, you're running at the moment.

I thought the same thing, first run takes quite awhile. After that it's fast if you notice it at all.

I run Smart Defrag on all my PC's and Laptop's including my Windows 7. I used to run Defraggler but changed after Roky point me to Smart Defrag.

I doubt it Peggy, but as I had and old version and it is on my XP machine I did not want to buy another defragger.

Peggy, to be totally honest...I own Diskeeper but I like Smart Defragger better as it has a smaller footprint and scans my PC's faster. I do like Diskeeper but don't want to keep on having to pay for upgrades. These days I like simple programs that do the job. Definitely keep your Diskeeper but if you get tired of it and uninstall it Smart Defragger is a nice program to use.

You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape.
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.
If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

I did download it but haven't installed it yet. Diskeeper does a great job for me and doesn't take very long at all, I don't think I have all the stuff on my computer that you experts have so nothing major to run through.
Just for the heck of it I'll give it a try.....thanks for the thoughts.

Well I am a satisfied customer. I put it on this morning and it told me 7 hours. About 40 minutes later it was done. Like the fact it was wrong on the time span.

The computer is only a few months old and according to analyzer I did not have much fragmentation.

I am not sure if I am still doing this right but I suggest you try Piriform http://www.piriform.com/ They provided a good defrag program plus hard drive clean up as well as other programs. they are free and if you find them good you can show your gratitude by contributing a small donation. Newf29
