I received as a gift a few years ago some Berndes cookware from my sis but have trouble with one of the pans burning so, I wrote Berndes about it and they sent me a warranty information sheet as an attachment(.doc file) I tried to open it but got the popup box. I never heard of a "Set Associations control panel. what are they talking about and can I do this?

Not sure about windows. But in Linux (for info) it is under right click on file, Select Properties>Permissions>set default operation to open this type of file.

I've never had to open any .doc files as yet with Vista. I think this happened a few months back and I just forgot about trying to open that one.

If you don't have MS Office, get free Open Office: http://www.openoffice.org/
It'll open .doc files.
