Is it worth it? I have updates from this about twice a week it seems. I don't use Spybot or AdAware anymore and just have Spyware Blaster/Guard, firewall and my trusty router and have had no problems(knock on wood).

I used Defender before installing the Free Microsoft Security Essentials all-in-one Anti-virus and spyware protection (anti-virus/ Defender combined).
I found it worked very well and now with using MSE it's even better. Haven't had any malware problems at all.But as always; it's a matter of choice of what anyone uses......Kenn

One of the main weaknesses of Windows Defender is the fact, that its definitions are updated once a month during Windows updates.
This is absolutely not enough in today's malware world.
Besides, I've never seen Windows Defender actually catching anything.
Malwarebytes and Superantispyware are your best choices.

Malewarebytes sounds like a winner. McAfee never catches anything either and I'm ditching that when it runs out.

Broni: Aren't you thinking of Microsoft's Malicious software removal tool that comes out with updates. Defender has many updates during the month and MSE updates almost everyday, sometimes more....

Malwarebytes is much better than Windows Defender, but I have Defender on my Windows 7 laptop only because it came installed, it updates roughly 3 times a week through Windows updates. Windows updates is always popping up saying there is an update to install, I look and it's windows defender.

Defender was installed on Vista as well and they do update quite a bit-usually small files in the kb range, thankfully.

I have to agree with Keeper about Microsoft Security Essentials. I also run Spybot and Winpatrol. I had SAS but it doesn't work correctly on my 64 bit system. I'll re-install it though once they finish with the 64 bit edition, which they tell me will be sometime this month.
