I have a small home network with 3 machines, at present, up and running.
Machine #1 main box - SP Pro Sp3 all upgrades, etc.
Machine #2 Quasi server - Win7 Ultimate
Machine #3 Toshiba laptop - Win 7

All Folders are shared on all machines from C: level down. All machines are passworded (Win plays better with passwords. To transfer files machine #1 (XP) can access just about any of the shared folders on machine #2, unless it's upset! Machine #2 requires machine #1 to be shared down to just about file level.. For ex: #1 has a Pictures folder with sub folders. To access just about any picture from #2, I have to go into #1 and share down to the individual folder. Drive C: is shared - folder Pictures on C: is shared - sub folder Dog Pics is shared. Can't share just drive C: or the sub folder under C:. Some times I can access a particular file on #2 from #1, but on the second attempt, I will have to go back to #1 and force the share on the individual folder. UAC is turned off.

Why do I have to share each individual folder for Win 7 to get to them - XP will go to any shared upper level folder on Win 7 with no problem.

Hopefully this makes some sense....

TIA

My Network required WinXP be changed to WORKGROUP instead of MSHOME. WinVista and Win7 also have access to the Network. The Default I've seen for Win7 is HOMEGROUP.

XP machine has always been named Workgroup. Can't find the current name on the Win7 box. Network name is Network 2, I don't think that's the name I'm looking for.
Like I tried to say, this is not a problem on all the folders/programs. It may not be a problem this time, but I'll go back to do something with the same file, and up pops the '...you can't access that folder/program...' So I share it down to the file level, and it's OK.

Should probably just upgrade the box to Win7 and be done with it.... My laptop has Win7 also, and has no problems connecting to anything.
