If anyone remembers years ago I had an emachines and couple years ago I got a new one. Well the old one I gave to a friend, nothing wrong with it up until now.
It keeps shutting down on her for no reason. I've done everything I know (which isn't much)to it. Today I had her reinstall Windows XP and this is what she gets.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_ or_Equal. If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer, if this screen appears again follow these steps. Check to make sure any hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation ask your hardware/software manufacturer if any windows updates your might need. If problems continues disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory option such as caching or shadowing if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components. Restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, then select safe mode.

Is the computer bootable/operable in either normal, or safe mode?

Yes......Normal and safe mode.

Download BlueScreenView (in Zip file)
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

When I said yes to normal or safe mode, that was before we started the reinstall. Then we started the reinstall and got through most of the formatting and then it shut down.

Well it seems we ran into a problem. Since we were trying to reinstall XP it got to a point in the formatting stage and that is when it just shut down. The only thing I know to do now at this point is to take one of the hard drives I have here and mail it to her and talk her through installing it. Does that sound about the right thing to do?

I'd probably test her drive first to see, if that's the problem.

Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Since we were in the middle of formatting to reinstall Windows XP, can't get to the desktop. I guess the formatting was almost done when it shut down, so now we can't do anything.

But will the computer start up again? Leave the WinXP CD in the drive, should be able to boot to it if the computer is still viable.

By a miracle, she saved the CDs that I gave her that came with emachines. She put them in and reinstalled windows. Everything is working okay now, just if I remember correctly there is no SP2 on that CD, it's to old.
Can she still put SP2 on it or just jump to SP3?
