Roc: Either I'm totally blind or most of my memory is shot, I never realized what you really knew about this OS and its inner workings. I am totally impressed by the information you provide. Your YATSite I have booked along with the other links you provided.
Thanks Bro......

I had a bit of an issue installing it as it kept asking for a package called kernel source.

You must have missed a step somewhere, somehow. I don't know which Ubuntu you are running. Also what type of Nvidia Card you have. Nvidia driver install was pretty painless for me. I googled my card first to see what steps I needed to take to install it in Ubuntu 10.04. Mine is set to run at 1024x768 as you can see from my previous post.

I am up late because I am downloading a new Parted Magic iso because it now has Flashrom in it and one can flash a bios using it using Linux instead of Windows or Windows DOS. I keep a Parted Magic CD like a wrench in a toolbox. Lots of useful stuff in it from trucrypt etc....

If you wish. We can make a stab at installing Nvidia drivers in your Ubuntu Box. Better if You open another thread in Linux forum section of smartestcomputing. I will need specs on your box. My tutorial for installing inxi in Ubuntu is HERE

To give you a idea of what inxi shows

~$ inxi -F

This readout is from my Asus Micro Gaming Computer I bought from a while back. It was cheap for what I paid for it ($165.00) and what it has. I am usually on my Asus EEEPCs normally. I won't spend over $200.00 for a computer appliance. But like a idiot. I'll collect stuff instead. :ugly_man_laugh:

It was the latest version of kubuntu form 2 weeks ago, right from there site and the drivers came right from nvidia. The drivers were a run file which had to be ran with the GUI turned off. I did the same thing with debian and had the same exact issue. Mint linux would not let me turn off the gui so could not even install the nvidia drivers.

The card I have is a geforce 6150se nforce 430.

Hi,
Just joined. I'm a bit of a distro-hopper but mainly Ubuntu derivatives. Have used Crunchbang, Mint, Pinguy, Uberstudent, all the __Buntu flavours, Peppermint, IceMint oh and a few others inc. Puppy, Fedora.

Ditched Windows on my laptop & now using Ubuntu 10.10 (for now!!)

Going to go back through here & look at some of those links ...

Richard.
