My old Emachines that I gave to a friend has got the Sasser worm. However, she didn't let me know about it until it has eaten so many files that it will not stay on. I tried to reinstall Windows XP with the original CD, but this is what I get..........
STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xF77C5200A, 0xF7C80A70, 0xF7C80770)
ACPI.Sys- address...F77C520A base at F77BC000, Date Stamp 3B7D8550
Is there anything left that I can do to make it right, please? I was thinking of taking another HD from old computer and installing that and just throw away the bad one.
Thank you...

If I remember it is while it is going through those last few things before it gets to the desk top.
After I came back home and posted the above, friend got it up and running again and we were on the phone talking about downloading and installing Avast and security programs. In the middle of doing that it just shut off and came back with message about......sorry for the inconvenience but had to shut down to protect from damage to your computer.
I think it might have bit the dust this time.

Overheating always possible...
Ask them to get a can of compressed air and clean it well inside the case.
This log may be helpful too...
Download BlueScreenView (in Zip file)
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Okay will work on that tomorrow. She has to work and has gone to bed.
Only problem I see with that is I don't know if it will stay running long enough to do the above.
I can put the BlueScreenView (in Zip file) on a CD and run it over there, but how do I save the report? We can try and send it to my email. Will think of something though.

Just to let you know I didn't work on this yesterday. I told her to bring me the machine and I'll work on it here at my house. Thanks for hanging in here with me. Will get back to you when I get the darn thing and have a chance to go over it.

No pro here, but with the support of our board I've learned a lot.

I'm going to move to another computer and leave this one until she can bring it to me. But, I won't forget about this thread.
