Don't know if the original issue is resolved or not - antivirus programs wouldn't appear in notification area and no AV user interfaces would start; also, MSE wouldn't install.
Want me to try to install an AV? MSE?

Wahoo! MSE installed perfectly.
I'd like to uninstall and put on Avast. Is there a current uninstall tool for MSE or just the Onecare Removal Tool?

Before I installed MSE, I ran through the Registry and deleted all Norton and Symantec references. Maybe I should do the same thing and delete all references to Microsoft - what do you think?
