Waaaaay back when (2003 or so) Power Toys had an applet called "Print Directory". I downloaded and used it a couple of times but really didn't like the look of the finished output, so ended up uninstalling it.

I am now in need of something that will print some directory listings for me, and am wondering if anyone knows of some little (SAFE) freebie that will do this chore?

I am using XP PRO SP3 so it must be compatible with that.

Thanks much, Mrs. B

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at both of these.

Larry - The S/S on Karen's web page looks interesting as it appears there are several options on how you want to set it up.

M'n'B - Now that you've mentioned "DOS", I do recall learning that in a DOS class back in the 80's. Pretty sure I still remember all my command strings so that might work as well.

It's also known as Karen's Power Tools. Further it is now known as Directory Print - same program as old. Still a little finicky to work with, but once you figure it out, it produces usually what you want.

WOW! What a little gem! Larry, I love Karen's little jewel. I'll have to go back to her site and see what other goodies she has available.

But Ski, you are right, it is finicky, I wasted quite a bit of paper figuring out which combination of options I wanted to include, but finally got an excellent result that is easy-to-read and just about precisely what I wanted.

Hi Broni - thanks for the additional program name and link - I shall take a look at it as well, just to check it out and see the difference between it and Karen's. Always wise to look at all options! <<Smiles>>

Thanks again everybody!

Mrs. Bond, many things we could do in DOS can still be done in a Command Prompt window, just type a command you remember such as DIR followed by a space and /?, will give some switches you can use, one is DIR>dir.txt to save in a text file but remember the Directory/Folder you are in. The DIR>PRN or DIR>LPT1 won't work with USB printers.

Hi Berton ..............

Thanks very much for the extra info, always helps to jog the ole' brain a little. Thanks especially for the tip about the USB printer issue. I've never heard that but am happy that you mentioned it because I probably would have gone nuts wondering why nothing was happening, and I'm quite sure that the USB factor would never have crossed my mind.

As always in the past Berton, you are a wealth of information and computer knowledge ..... your wise input is always appreciated.

Cheers, Mrs. B

Almost all of Karen's "goodies" were nice. I hated when she quit her newsletters. I still have a lot of her programs.
