While doing updates, I noticed one for Windows Media Player 6, and I am thinking 'what the heck do I need with WMP6!?'.
Can I kill it, and any other redundant programs? Like perhaps maybe all those ".nets"?
Can I remove WMP 6?

WMP is part of Windows and if having problems with Windows it will come back at some point during a repair. It would be possible to uninstall it in Add or Remove Programs, probably in Windows Components. Also, some multi-media features on Web sites will look for it and probably some programs, that's a minor downside with many things bundled into the Operating System.
