High-performance computing expert Jason Stowe recently asked two of his engineers a simple question: Can you build a 10,000-core cluster in the cloud?
"It's a really nice round number," says Stowe, the CEO and founder of Cycle Computing, a vendor that helps customers gain fast and efficient access to the kind of supercomputing power usually reserved for universities and large research organizations.

CentOS Is one Distro I would run instead of Fedora,Mandriva, or Open Suse if I chose to run a rpm based distro.
I am more partial though to Debian apt based systems. Just a different way the vehicle handles is all. CentOS is a real good solid/stable Linux system to run though. Does not run the Latest software available. But runs the most stable available though. Makes a heck of a server operating system.

I am more familar with Fedora and Red Hat.
I still am not entirly clear what this whole 'cloud' fad is about though.

The cloud fad is you trusting some body else's server to store your data instead of making a hard copy via external hardrive, dvd,or cd. I don't use my Ubuntu One much though I have a account. I back up via external hardrives instead of cloud.
Nice thing about cloud is you can access your stored data from any computer that has access to the net. Kinda like one of those temp external storage buildings you can drive to and use to store your crap you don't have room for in the house.
Folks with small Netbooks, Phones, etc, think it is a neat way to have more storage room for pictures, music, movies while having access but not stored on their limited space on hardrives. Get the idea MNBXP.
