I am old to desktops but new to laptops. I recently bought an ACER and am wondering what processes I can safely kill/set to manual. I have looked at Black Viper's process list but many not listed there are running. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

That's little bit of a back door approach.
Most processes are needed.
The only unneeded processes can be generated by unnecessary startups.
Once you disable unnecessary startups (if any), you should leave other processes alone.

To check your startups....

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type:

You have only a few startups.
Only couple of them can be disabled.

Re-run Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab and UN-check following items:

"Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" (if you have paid version, leave this one alone)
"StartCCC"
"SunJavaUpdateSched"

You should be good to go.
