Yeah. I run XP for a couple of things I can't run in Linux like Motorcycle tuning Software and Kodak easyshare for a C330 camera because the camera firmware requires easyshare software to install camera firmware.

Anyhows. I hadn't booted into Windows on this laptop in so long that Avast had expired. So I updated and reinserted my registration key and rebooted. Was greeted the the BSOD

Quote

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error).

The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080 (0x00000000) (0x00000000).

The system has been shut down.

Drats@*&#, So I reboot into Linux to google why and what for. See everything from check ram, dying hard drive, reinstall XP (like I'm going to let that happen).

Now for you uninitiated. I use grub4dos to boot Windows and Linux on this Laptop with Puppy and AntiX. I have 2 Windows Menu entries in the grub4dos boot screen. One says just Windows which boots straight to XP splash screen (blue loading bar). The other is Windows that gets you into choosing safe mode. Which is what I did.

After getting into safe mode. I did a system restore to a previous date before I upgraded avast.
Rebooted and BSOD was gone. Installed revo uninstaller and started uninstalling avast, mbam, adobe reader, spywareblaster (it/mbam gave me uninstall error and update error also).

Cleaned out all registry entries for avast and mbam with revo unistaller. Installed Iobit smart defragger and got rid of the red stuff. Did my updates (kbxxxxxx). Downloaded latest Avast,Foxit, and latest spyware blaster also.
Went through installs and reboots. After getting everything sorted and defragged and ran NTREGPOT (reboot again).
Restarted system restore and made my new restore point.

I run Erunt in Windows also. Posting this mostly because I knew my ram, hardrive, and XP install was OK and that Avast had caused windows to Bsod.

Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3 (now to go wash my hands) :Cartman5:
