I own an Acer laptop running Win 7 x64 Sp1
When I boot after it has been off for a while it hangs on the Welcome Screen. When I shut down
using the power button the 'Start Windows Normally' screen comes up, I choose Start Windows
Normally and comp boot into log in.
I created a new log-in but that did not resolve the problem
No errors are shown just won't boot the first time around

Next time around try to boot to Safe Mode and see if same thing happens.
That will give us more info.

I failed to mention that, the problem does not happen in safe mode. I posed this question while in Safe Mode with Networking.

While in Safe Mode....

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.

Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.

Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.

NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.

Did as you suggested. Computer booted perfectly!
Do I re-enable them one by one to find the culprit?

edit-Pinhead moment. I had 2 Antivirus progs starting. MBAM and Comodo. I take it that is the problem, conflicting w/
each other?

Exactly.

MBAM shouldn't be conflicting with Comodo.

Let me know, what the culprit was.

I think the problem is with Comodo. I re-enabled it and same prob. Dis-able it no boot problems. Am running Windows firewall. Is this sufficient? If, not what do you suggest? I use PcTools freeware on my desktop.
