Just happened to notice on my main machine, I no longer have either DVD drive. I have seen this before, but this is a little stranger - one is ATA, and the other is SATA, both are burners. Tried uninstalling, power down, disconnect the drives, reboot, shutdown and reconnect and reboot. Still the same - 'cannot load drivers...' Can't reinstall the chipset drivers, cuz they are on CD. May try to do it over the home network. Strange - also lost my little multifunction box - USB, CF, PCMCIA, etc. Ran a couple of virus chasers with no results.....
Got me on this one.
Any help greatly appreciated....

Found a fix - albeit old - but it worked!!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Delete upper and lower filters - if they exist.
Worked for me!!

Glad you got it fixed, I had the exact same thing happen a few years ago and same fix took care of it.............
