I have just installed windows 7 pro on my PC and I am impressed. I bought the 64 bit version and installed 4 more gigs of ram for a total of 6. I have never seen so much of a difference in an operating system. Microsoft got it right with this version. I have an older computer that I built in 2007 with a gigabyte board running the core duo E4300 CPU. It is like I bought a brand new very fast computer. One question I do have is has anyone tried the new backup utilities in Windows 7 ? Does it work similar to Norton Ghost. I want to make an image and burn it to DVD so I will be able to get it back quick in case of disaster. Thanks
Tom

It's every bit as easy as it looks!
For your image: click the Start orb>type backup>click on Backup and Restore>select System Image>select DVD. Also make a System Repair Disk which will help to restore the image, among other useful functions.
For backing up and restoring, here's a good "how to:" http://www.howtogeek...e-in-windows-7/
Enjoy!

Thanks, I did the image today. Is this going to work just like Norton Ghost. I assume it is. I wonder if I changed hard drives would the image work? I have used Norton Ghost 2003 on all my older PC's and it has saved me many a day. Is this going to work just like Macrium?

I have also used the free version of Macrium and it worked great. Just trying to find the best software that works. I would not know how good something is until I try it. I did the backup today but still not sure if it works without problems. I also made the repair disk but again I have never tried this. I guess I could connect one of my older SATA drives and test it. Thanks again. Tom

I haven't used Ghost in many years so can't comment on that. Macrium is good and will also work with Win 7 (I continue to use DriveImage XML).
But, Win 7's image is "just as good." And, yes it will restore to a new hard drive. The problem with all images is that typically they're not made very often and will only restore (of course) to the date of the image. That's why a backup routine of some sort is so important; and, Win 7's is pretty painless.
Restoring an image is pretty simple: http://www.howtogeek...n-image-backup/

If I may cut in...
I have tried numberous back-up programs, and I must be dumb cause there is always a few file missing. I end up just reinstalling and plopping wma.bak\wma.dbl back in. what would cause this?
Does the "imaging" programs only work on the os? Or third party stuff as well?
