Give it a try tomorrow Broni. I can hardly keep my eyes open. Its late here. I do not have the Vista DVD. This computer was shipped with the hidden partition and it no longer works. I think something we done last year running the master boot program messed that part up. I still see it in computer management but the PC Restore will not work. Anyway, THANKS for the help. I will check back with you tomorrow. Have a good Saturday. TP

Same error. internet explorer did not finish installing. Is there a way to repair it? I have a Dell Vista business DVD but not sure it will work to help repair this system? The computer runs great, it is fast and starts and shuts down great. We can just let it be if you want? Let me know . TP

That DVD won't work. It must be same Vista version.

It's lengthy, but several solutions are proposed there.

I will read and see what I can find. I would think maybe something in the registry is messed up. Maybe the website you showed me will have the fix. THANKS again for your time and help. TP

Broni, I have tried some of these fixes and none have worked so far. I can post this in the windows vista forums if you want. I really need to get this fixed where we can use it with the updates. I know there must be a fix somewhere. The annoying thing is the first time I click internet explorer I get prompted to install IE9. Every time I go to install new updates a message that says "update failed error code 80096001" appears. When I go to the control panel and try to update from there I get Windows cannot search for updates? Got any idea on why this is happening. You think the viruses messed up the registry? Sorry for all the trouble. I also really appreciate all you have done for us.

I did not find a fix yet. I am still looking and even contacted Microsoft. I am waiting on them to reply. I am almost positive this is a registry error somewhere. I can order the recovery DVD for $28 and that may be what I have to do. I cannot stand for something to beat me though and I will keep searching for now. Thanks for those links. I will research them more today and see if I can find something. TP

Broni, it would be the Toshiba recovery DVD. That would not work for a repair would it? Also if were to get hold of a Vista disk that has the same version as mine would have to download all the updates again if I did a repair?? It took me hours to do all the updates the reason I am asking. Thanks again and I am still trying to find a repair for the problem I am having now. The computer like I said runs great just cannot get the updates. Thanks
