Trying to open an e-mail acct. for a friend. His wife has a business, using a unique domain name. There are four computers in her office, one at home, plus a couple of laptops. She's using WinXP Pro and Outlook for e-mail, another worker user hotmail and etc.
In the machine at home, I'm trying to setup an e-mail acct. for her husband, either Outlook or OE. No matter what I've tried - when creating a mail and hitting send, the message stays in the outbox. I've checked "send message immediately" in options, "My Server Requires Authentication" in Tools, Accounts. She can receive a message I send to him on her office machine.(Not at home).
Haven't worked on SOHO, so I'm at a loss. Do I need create a User Acct. for him on the "home machine"?

If using the same ISP and E-Mail Address on more than one computer the settings should all be the same. Only one E-Mail Client should do the final download of Incoming messages so all other computers have to be set to "Leave a copy on the Server". The POP3 settings for POP [Incoming] and SMTP [Outgoing] and Ports involved have to be as specified by the ISP for their E-Mail Server or by the service hosting the Domain which usually also provides the E-Mail service. In addition to POP3 there is IMAP and HTTP. IMAP may be used by the hosting service and an example of HTTP is Hotmail, both can be set up in Outlook or Windows Live Mail, maybe other E-Mail Clients.

Berton, I may not have been clearly understood. I'm trying to create an Outlook (which she also uses) account for him, but when entering his name a message box will pop-up asking for the password. What I guess is happening is that I'm trying to create his e-mail account on her user account - which causes the computer to balk and ask for a password when entering his name.
If I recall, and it's been quite sometime since I retired, I have to create an new user account and password for him.
In other words, when Windows XP opens, there'll be two accts. showing, either will have to click on his or her account name to open, and then I can proceed from there to create his e-mail account. I'll give that a try when they are home some evening and let you know.

Okay, sounds like you need to get into Control Panel, User Accounts and create him there with or without a password which will allow him logging on. Then there'll be a choice of either Logging Off to allow the other to log on or to Switch Identity. One he logs on should work to create the new Account in Outlook.
