What with all the spam like pop ups, slowing my machine down.
What else is there?
Norton is a joke, Avira has fried my last nerve...

Try here for some recommendations, I use Microsofts Security Essentials since it came out, both on XP and Win 7 and never had a problem with it. Scroll down the page to view it.

I use Avast on all my machines, and on all my customer's machines. I have a lot of it turned off tho.......

Avira is not Avast. Some time ago I used Avira, didn't like it - seemed to be too overpowering (ie: Norton or McAfee).......

Microsoft Security Essentials is an Anti-Virus program, you need nothing else except a firewall and there are plenty of good free ones. Don't understand what you mean by you have something similar to MSE, because if you are running 2 different software Anti-Virus programs at the same time, that's a no-no.
In the end, it's a matter of choice to what you want to run...... I've tried them all over the years and on different computers I've owned and settled on MSE

Ok,now I know what you were referring too.,I really never downloaded and use this app when they offer it in monthly updates. But it's nice that MS offers something to use for those who don't have or don't update their Anti-virus (or those who don't realize that their paid versions have to be re-bought at some point to keep getting updates) they have installed.

Kaspersky is pretty dependable, not cheap but worth it. $49.00 but good for three PC's.
