I have 2 DSL modems, can I use them both on the same line ? Or do I have to get a router, did I spell that right ? But anyway, I want to put one of my rigs back upstairs.

Hey Lewis...
This is the first time that I have seen someone ask this question. I can hoestly say I don't know. I'm running 1 DSL modem to my router then from my router to my 3 pc's. I would think that they would bump into each other of they are on the same line.
1. Why do you need to run 2 modems? One modem per PC?
2. Are they from the same provider? If so have you asked them? You might P/U 2 IP adddresses from them
If you get a router you can have multiple (depending on the amount of connections on the router) PC's connected to the Internet. As stated earlier I have 3 on 1 DSL modem and 1 router. Works quite well.
Anyways I will check with our Networking guru at work on Monday and see what he says. I'll post back anything I find or come up with.
Hang in there...

Found some info "Googling"...

From what I have been reading is Yes you can run 2 DSL modems if you have 2 separte telephone lines running to your house.

I've been watching your post, and I did some research on it. Maybe, I wasn't brave enough to say what dobhar just posted: I don't know.
It's pretty unusual question, and I couldn't see any definitive answer. 21 views mean a very same thing. People saw your post, but so far, it was no good answer.
Couple of good thougths from Kent's post (I was wondering pretty much same things):
You have two modems, and you want to use them, instead of buying a router? Routers are cheap this days ($40-$50), and your headache is gone.
2nd DSL line will cost you extra (I think) on a MONTHLY basis, so you'll keep paying for ever.

I agree. Each DSL has a mac address (usually found on a sticker on the DSL). Thats how your ISP can find your DSL on their system. After their system finds your mac address, you are issued an IP address. In order for your ISP to find the mac address on the second DSL, you would have to call them and give it to them. Then you would get charged for "multiple" IP addresses. The charge with most ISP's is 10 bucks extra a month.
I have a cable modem and that how I have it setup. Although I only use one modem with a 5 port hub and a wireless router, I can use up to 6 IP addresses. Every computer hooked to the hub is issued it's own IP address. Everything that connects with the router shares an IP address.
A router is just as good and cheaper. I setup several computers at a time..... thats why it's important for me to have the extra IP addresses.

Thank you very much guys. I still have my DSL modem from when I first tried DSL a little while before J RAM went hi speed over at SmartCompting.so what was that, about 3 years or so ago Broni? But when I let them go. And got DSL again, they sent me another DSL modem. And said I had to get another, but if they use another code, then I will scrap that idea, and get a router, or I could use one of my old rigs for one. Have to learn how it is done, but I hear there is nothing to it.
