You may.

You may lose data that is stored in the All Users folder and you may lose default program templates and settings that are stored in the Default User folder after you reinstall, repair, or upgrade Windows XP. Also, Start menu shortcuts, items in the Startup group, and documents, pictures, or music files that are stored in the Shared Documents folder may be missing.

There were 3 versions of WinXP, HE/Home Edition, Pro and MCE/Media Center Edition. There were two versions of WinXP Pro, 32-bit and 64-bit. I've run both the HE and Pro versions and outside of a business Network didn't see much need for the Pro version for most folks. The MCE version came only on a new computer [was not a Retail or Upgrade version] and provided more multi-media features.
