Hey Broni,

Been a while. Anyway, I downloaded the game LA Noire from STEAM and the thing won't install. i have some ideas but lack the knowledge and their support of course is not only slow and clueless but apathetic as well. They have my $50 so I can just go pound sand as far as they are concerned.

The problem appears (to me) to be in their initial installation of .net 3.5. I'll give you more details and post some error logs if you feel like fooling with it. Many are having the same problem and as I said, both STEAM and Rockstar games are uninterested in helping anyone.

Thanks.

Make sure you don't have any empty spaces or weird characters in the game installation path. And try running the installer as admin.
Also if the game is installing on a FAT32 disk it could be a problem The trick is to download/install the game on a harddisk that has NTFS (not fat32, I had read this a while back so don't know if it pertains to you).

Actually Keeper, that WAS a problem with a couple of people on the steam forum. But alas, it's not mine. Most of the folks having the problem I'm having also run Vista 64 like me. I THINK i have it narrowed down to a couple of areas, but I don't have quite enough knowledge to be sure.

Never mind. I fixed it. :computer_bash:

Well actually I agitated STEAM long enough that they finally got someone with a brain who actually READ what I was telling them and he/she fixed it with one simple suggestion. PLUS I learned something.............

Thanks any way.

Keep in mind from the consumer point of view that if this company does not help especially on a brand new product install, that if they don't assist perhaps you let them know you will notify the FTC, Federal trade commission on their poor customer conduct. Also check in your area for state consumer groups when these turkeys take the money and run. It is amazing how they will want to help you all of sudden. I have done it with a couple of software companies and it does work.

Well duh, I had thought about that when I initially posted but then forgot. It would also help if one of you mods could change the title to "Fix for LA Noire constant Synch problem." There are a bunch of folks having it.

Basically somehow my compatibility mode for the Steam folder got switched to XP from Vista 64. But in the "All users" portion, not on my profile so I didn't see it and never knew to check "show setting for all users." Here is what they wrote:

You indicated that Steam appears to believe your OS is Windows XP 64-bit? This is likely because compatibility mode has been enabled, which causes many problems with games and installers:

Make sure Steam is not set to use Compatibility features.

To do this, browse to your Steam installation (Usually C:\Program Files\Steam\)

Right click on Steam.exe, choose Properties.

Click on the Compatibility tab.

Uncheck any boxes that are checked, and click Apply.

Then, click the "Show settings for all users" button.

Again, make sure none of these boxes are checked, and click Ok.

Click Ok to close any open dialog boxes.

Double click on Steam.exe to launch Steam.

Re-test the issue.
