a buddy of mine was asking me this and could not give him a good answer so the first thing I though of was you guys here.
Thanks, hope this is in the right place Broni.
When streaming video on my computer the cpu is pushed hard and heats up, has the fans running hard and using gobs of power, but my new WD Live streaming device connected to my TV has no fan, does not get hot and uses less than 18w of power. So what is the difference and why can't they use the WD Live technology in the computers.

My computer specs:
IBM Think Centre 8171 ( Business Type compact that sits flat on desk and you can put monitor on top)
Windows XP Pro
Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz
1 GB RAM
250GB HDD / 100GB free
Link to WD LIVE specs

Inside the WD TV Live is a Sigma Designs SMP8670AD-CBE3 processor with 512MB of DDR2 memory from four Nanya NT5TU128M8GE-AC chips spread around the motherboard. This compares with 256MB found on the previous WD TV Live Hub, as well as a slightly older processor. Flash storage was partially hidden from view, but we guess that it is probably the same 2GB NAND chip or greater, given the same operating system and featureset.

Does he have dedicated video card or on-board video chip?
When was the last time when he cleaned inside the case?
Ask him to stream some video and at the same time (download programs listed below prior to the test).
Download Process Explorer: http://technet.micro...s/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply.
Download and install SIW Multilanguage With Installer (SIW free version) (bottom of the screen)
Run the tool.
After it scans your computer, navigate to Hardware>Sensors and post all info from there.
