It has been awhile since I have had network problems so a little rusty on figuring it out.
1. Did a system restore to prior date to see if software problem, no change.
2. Did a modem recycle turning off disconnecting for around 20 minutes.
3. Did the IPCONFIG release and renew worked well unit I shut it down and restarted computer.

The only thing left I can think of is disconnecting cable and trying that for awhile. This modem is around 3-4 years old so I am thinking maybe it is on it's dying? Any other thoughts appreciated.

Since you're not mentioning any router is it just straight computer connection to the modem?

I have a netgear wifi, which is working just fine I use my laptop every morning it has plenty of speed, and the modem is a Motorola SB5120 which is not made anymore but was a good one at one time. Replacement I have in mind if it is the modem is a Motorola Docis 3.0 Surfboard SB6121

I am still trying to load my Yahoo. page to create login for speedtest and it has been ten minutes so far. With three windows open very slow.

If laptop works fine then I don't think there is any issue with router or modem.

Why exactly are you trying to access Yahoo instead of going straight to the test site?

You have to create a login in speedtest in order to use it thus have to register than they confirm than I can test it. The usual!
I disconnected the modem again and just lit it up and seems to be better so beginning to think maybe it is just comcast that is slow.

Speeds up, and than slows down so still some problem just have to keep plugging away until I figure it out. I usually have super speed 24/7 so this is not normal.

Just in case. My IP speed sux and sometimes goes down entirely during weather changes. My ISP server (Windstream) and lines seem to be effected by moisture or bad weather. Sometimes it lasts for days even. Especially during the weekend. Just in case JohnT.

It has been sunny here mid 60's cold mornings in the 20's but that is standard for here. I am on my laptop this morning and it is fast with wifi connection. No big deal I will be putting the desktop in the shop after Christmas for some upgrades so may buy the new high speed modem I have had my eye on.

I appreciate the input I just hate it when I cannot fix something or figure it out.

Just did speed test on wifi laptop and it did better than desktop that is cable connected.

Try desktop test and laptop test at the same time. That speed test will show different results at different times of the day.
Try to run it 2-3 times in a row so you can see some average.

Today the net is fast on desktop so must have been a Comcast thing. I guess I am spoiled and too used to high speed all the time, thanks for the help and I will do a few speed tests to set and average so when things do bog down I can do a comparative analysis.

I ran that test last night and had 22.78 down and 4.19 down. Just ran it and it is faster--probably better daytime figures.

Broni it slowed down again. I don't know if it is a the net or a cpu problem. The quickest site is smartest computing but Yahoo is slow as molasses and so is facebook. I am wondering if it might be memory so I think I will run memtest and do a check on it just for giggles.

Slow on IE took a bit of time for comcast home page to load.

It has to be something within the computer the speed tests are coming back decent, not great but decent.
