The only issue i thought it had was that it hung during boot , still does .
Wonder if it has anything to do with Avast . I had two friends who had to remove it because it played havoc with their computer .
I'll try i different anti virus and see if that works . If not I'll leave the computer on.

We cleaned some crap.
For testing purposes you can do this....
Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.
Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.
Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.
NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.
Same problem?

Well, that's normal.
This is what you have to do.
Redo steps from my reply #47.
Restart computer.
Re-enable ONE service from those you just disabled.
Restart computer.
No problem?
If so, re-enable another service.
Restart.....and so on one by one until you find the culprit.
When done with services and still OK, do same thing with startups.
This is what you have to do.
